The 22nd International EMATEM Summer School took place for the first time at Haydau Abbey in Morschen from September 22 to 24, 2026. The historic abbey complex provided the ideal setting for three days of intensive professional exchange on the topics of heat, refrigeration, and flow measurement technology. Once again, experts from industry, testing laboratories, research institutions, Notified Bodies, and government agencies came together to discuss current developments, research findings, and practical applications.
The conference program covered a wide range of current topics. Key areas of focus included regulatory developments in legal metrology, current standardization activities, experiences from conformity assessment, and new approaches to improving the measurement accuracy and long-term stability of measurement systems. In addition, innovative solutions for heat, cooling, and water meters were presented, along with results from ongoing research projects.
Once again, a distinctive feature of the summer school was its international focus. In addition to participants from numerous European countries, this year’s event also welcomed guests from Canada and China. The diverse perspectives on regulatory requirements, testing procedures, and metrological challenges enriched the discussions and underscored the importance of EMATEM as an international platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience.
In addition to the technical presentations, networking also played a central role in 2026. Participants took advantage of the numerous opportunities to engage in personal exchanges, forge new connections, and strengthen existing collaborations. In particular, the discussions between representatives from industry, research, and government agencies once again demonstrated the great value of the international network that has developed over the years within EMATEM.
A highlight of the supporting program was the guided tour of the monastery on the second evening of the event. During the tour, participants gained fascinating insights into the history and architecture of Haydau Monastery.
Afterward, the technical discussions continued in a pleasant atmosphere, and numerous conversations were further explored across national and organizational boundaries.
Participants and organizers alike gave the event overwhelmingly positive reviews. The high quality of the presentations, the lively discussions, and the international participation once again confirmed the significance of the EMATEM Summer School as a key professional event in the field of thermal energy measurement technology.
